Admission Point Score (APS) — What You Need
Calculated from your 6 best NSC subjects (Life Orientation excluded). Use as a guide — always confirm faculty requirements.
| % Range | APS | Level | Typical Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| 80–100% | 7 | Outstanding | Medicine, Law, Actuarial, top Engineering |
| 70–79% | 6 | Meritorious | BSc, BCom, BA (competitive), Architecture |
| 60–69% | 5 | Substantial | Most undergraduate degrees at most universities |
| 50–59% | 4 | Adequate | Extended programmes, some universities of technology |
| 40–49% | 3 | Moderate | UoTs with foundation programmes, TVET pathways |
| 30–39% | 2 | Elementary | TVET colleges, short courses, bridging programmes |
ℹ️ Life Orientation is excluded from APS. Mathematics and Mathematical Literacy carry different weights — check each institution's requirements.
Pomodoro Technique
25 min focused work + 5 min break. After 4 rounds take a longer rest. Trains concentration and prevents burnout.
Active Recall
Close your notes and retrieve from memory. Use flashcards or past papers — far more effective than re-reading.
Spaced Repetition
Revisit material after 1h → 1 day → 3 days → 1 week. Apps like Anki automate this and lock info in long-term memory.
Feynman Technique
Explain a concept simply. Where you stumble is your gap. Return to the material and try again until fluent.
Need your APS higher? KAE can help.
Expert tutors in Maths, Physical Sciences, Accounting and all major matric subjects. Book a lesson and close the gap.
